A Voice Gone Radikal

It appears Christian Duque, the FIJI member who used the name Voice Party for his political adventures in fall 2004 and spring 2005, is back in Gainesville after a hiatus and has a new blog.

Make no mistake, Christian came up with the name before consulting anyone from the most recent predecessor, the 2001 Voice party headed by myself and one of the Access Party’s future masterminds (James Argento). He did talk to us afterward, and let us know what he was doing for the Spring 2005, but I do know I tried getting him to join up with Dennis or MacKenzie as the smart political thing to do. And given Voice lost all but 1 seat and its only executive candidate got just 9% of the vote or so, I felt my advice was smart in hindsight.

Christian’s blog seems quite embittered, full of angst with the state of campus politics down there. And while he does make points occassionally that have serious merit, it’s hard to consider them fully when faced with the vitriolic commentary that surrounds those insights.

Feel free to use the comments to share your thoughts on Duque and his blog.

Duque has gone completely off the reservation. His opinions would be insane at best, even if he had his facts straight, but he doesn’t. With regards to Unite in particular, he seems obssesed with casting blame on a trifecta of Thomas Jardon, Allison Cullin, and Adam Roberts. How out of the loop is Duque? Thomas Jardon and Allison Cullin have nothing to do with the party; nothing! If you’re an out of town alumni with no contacts, stick to commenting on what you can find in the Alligator and not the inside nature of party politics; you’ll inevitably look like an ass.

(His innacuracies regarding MacKenzie Moritz are also somewhat troubling. I wonder how difficult it is to get emotional about a topic such as MacKenzie running Boyles’ campaign and then suddenly realize that the topic never had merit in the first place).
