Landslide in Loudoun

While Bush was plathering on, Virginia Democrats stole a state Senate seat from the Republicans. Republicans still dominate the state Legislature, 57-40-3 in the House and 23-17 in the Senate. But it seems the Democrats are on a roll in Virginia’s exurbs, which may point to a change in the state’s political leanings in 2008.

But the main reason I post this, aside from Loudoun County being a stone throw’s away from where I live, is a comment made by a supporter of the Republican candidate:

“I believe in fiscal responsibility,” said Jerry Cimarella, 63, a retiree living in Broadlands. “I believe he’ll help the Republican Senate, and I believe he will support the president and what he’s trying to do overseas.”

I’m all for patriotism, and wants to support a leader you agree with. But isn’t it a little misplaced to think a member of any state Legislature can do something to help the President’s war on terror and other foreign policy?

Just seems a little odd to me.

Yes, you’d think Virginia Democrats were on a roll, until you realized that the national Democratic party more or less sacrified their current standard bearer in front of a live audience last night.

Tim Kaine and his damn eyebrow will be giving Virginia back to the GOP soon enough, just you wait! 😉
