Dumb Legislating
It’s bad enough that Congress often takes a 3-day work week that consists of coming in late on Tuesday and leaving early on Thursday. It’d even worse when they follow those up with weeks and months off, or allow their members to take special-interest-paid vacations during the brief official work weeks there are.
But when you here the Congressional leadership doing this, you have to think they are just plain dumb.
Why waste your time on bills and votes you know in advance will fail, when you give yourself so little time to do anything in the first place?
Moreover, why would you think purposely setting yourself up for failure is going to motivate anyone to vote for you, much less do the hard work of turning out their followers?
That is, what makes the GOP think scheduling votes on gay marriage and flag burning, even though neither has any hope of passing, would help convince the Christian Right to be like “all is forgiven” on federal spending, ethics, immigration, and all that?
I call bullshit.
