A Day Worthy of Dilbert
I took today and tomorrow off as a birthday present. (I turned 25 today.) But what happened to me at work on Wednesday is far more interesting…
As team coordinator, I started a tradition of bringing birthday cakes in for each of my team members as their birthdays arrived. So, on Monday, my manager asked when we’d celebrate my birthday – as I’d already scheduled my vacation days by then. I told her Wednesday would work best, since I’d probably not come in on Friday (although I left the option open).
Guess what she asked next? She asked me what kind of cake I’d be bringing in.
Yep, my manager was asking me to bring in my own birthday cake for everyone else to enjoy.
I couldn’t believe my ears. It was literally like a story straight out of the Dilbert comic strip. You’d think my coworkers would bring the cake this time, but no, they only did a card – and that was because a friend outside my team brought it in.
Sigh.
But to answer her questions and yours, it was a round, store-bought carrot cake.
