Why Lamont Is Ahead
A new Rasmussen poll puts Ned Lamont ahead of Senator Joe Lieberman, by about 10%, in the primary. Worse still, Indie Joe only merits a tie with Lamont if Joe breaks with the Democrats in order to void the primary results he doesn’t like.
Here’s my theory as to why Lamont is pulling ahead: the mainstream media obsession with the pro-Democratic bloggers movement has over-saturated coverage of this Senate primary campaign, and even their anti-bloggers slant hasn’t kept Lieberman’s negatives from emerging. If the media had ignored this primary, much like they are doing to the Senate primaries in Rhode Island and Hawaii, then Joe might have avoided some of the gaffes and negativity that’s driving his numbers down.
Yes, I just said I think Lamont has a chance to win thanks to the media driving up the intensity of this race through its anti-blogger coverage.
I think the anti-blogger stance has to change. Clearly, it’s not just the bloggers now. A majority of Connecticut’s Democrats are now saying Joe has to go.
If Joe wants to attack the bloggers for trying to purge him, maybe he stop for a moment and realize that many Connecticut voters see his attacks on the bloggers and think he’s attack them and their right to vote for who they want.
No one wants to elect an anti-democratic Democrat.
And Joe just might lose this race because of it.
