Taking Things For Granted
The term of office may be 2-3 years away, but Florida state Senators altered their leadership team for 2008.
And get this, they also have a Senate President already locked up for 2011-2012.
Apparently, the state Republican Party, having 26 of 40 state Senate seats, has decided that they can take for granted that Senate majority in the 2006, 2008, and 2010 elections. And that there’s nothing wrong with deciding who will lead you long before they have enough experience to prove their worth, let alone have guaranteed they’ll actually be in the Senate at that time.
Quite odd. Sadly, I doubt the Florida Democrats will be able to overcome that majority any time soon. Despite being a close state on presidential votes, Florida is not close on the state level:
Florida
Governor – Republican
Attorney General – Republican
State Senate – Republican (26-14)
State House – Republican (84-36)
Virginia
Governor – Democrat
Attorney General – Republican
State Senate – Republican (23-17)
State House – Republican (57-40-3)
As you can see, Virginia is more Democratic than Florida is. And that’s just sad.
