Paul Can’t Hackett
The news in Ohio is that Paul Hackett has left the race for United States Senate. Saying that the party first coaxed him to run and then changed their minds and tried pushing him out in favor of Congressman Brown – to the point of begging his donors to stop donating to him.
The party bosses in DC even tried to get him to run for the House instead. However, Paul didn’t like his chain being yanked, so he withdrew from both and heaped a lot of public disgust on the DCCC and DSCC.
Good for him. We live in a democracy; primaries should be dictated by the voters, not the party bosses. It’s one thing to recruit quality candidates and it’s quite another to de-recruit them.
Yet, hopefully this has no bearing on 2006.
