I Don’t Recall
Would you hire – or retain – an employee who recalls he did nothing improper in firing a subordinate but cannot recall why he fired them?
Alberto Gonzales claimed amnesia during a Senate hearing on the whole prosecutor scandal. This was after he tried arguing that he had no role in the firing of the prosecutors, except to endorse the recommendations made by his Chief of Staff.
I just don’t know what’s worse – a guy who claims he can’t remember doing his job, or a guy who claims he just does whatever his staff tells him to do.
Either way, his actions which borderlined on perjury are unbecoming of the nation’s chief law enforcement officer. It’s time for him to go.
Ken, I think you’re absolutely right on the money. Alberto Gonzalez is an absolute disgrace and it’s time for him to go. What’s really bothersome about the way George W. handles himself is that he simply refuses to acknowledge when he’s made a mistake. His unflinching loyalty to folks like Gonzalez and Donald Rumsfeld, even long after they’ve demonstrated their gross incompetence, is simply mind-blowing.
