99% Negative
The GOP is increasingly worried about its tenuous hold on the U.S. House in the wake of the Foley scandal. Just on Friday, the NRCC dumped another $9.3 million in independent expenditures in their target districts.
Where did this money go?
34 GOP-held seats, 4 Democratic seats.
$75,273 on positive ads
$9,257,537 on negative ads
$2 million into Pennyslvania’s 4 competitive seats.
Nearly $700,000 into the seat vacated by convicted Congressman Bob Ney.
Nearly $500,000 to bail out Clay Shaw, the only Congressman in the country who thinks he’ll be the Republican leader of Ways & Means next year; and another $500,000 to bail out a freshman congressman in Washington.
Another $350,000 to help J.D. Hayworth, who is not a high-value target for Democrats – at least not yet.
I am more struck by the factoid that 99% of the money the GOP spent on Friday was for negative ads.
It’s like they have no positive message of their own, no real excuse for why THEY should be elected. Only why Democrats should NOT.
May work as a firewall strategy, but it is unlikely to stop the wave from crashing onto their House.
