Grr…
I used a gray Dell memory key thingy to store most of my data that I rely on both at work and at home – i.e., mostly my copies of my manuscripts.
Well, it’s been more than a week and I still can’t figure out where the fuck it went – I remember having it at home in the morning before work but a few hours later, I didn’t have it any more.
(Have no fear, the worst case scenario doesn’t impact my second book at all, but it would mean starting the third one over from scratch, after doing an extensive outline and some 90 pages of the book. Yuck.)
As a laptop user, I learned the value of a good backup, for I had one just days before my hard disk crashed. Phew…. I could turn in the project that I had been working on for the past few weeks, it was due in like two days.
For mission critical stuff: outside storage. Get a Gmail account and e-mail stuff to yourself!! One of the rules of computing that I have developed: “Someone else’s storage never fails” Also, invest in an external DVD burner and make backups of your own stuff!
