What Opposition Parties Do
So, a new kid in the SG blogosphere is taking up the contrary, pro-FBK position against TheRadikal.com. And in their latest posting, Swamp South Lawn takes the opposition Orange & Blue Party to task for, among other things, opposing an agency appointment:
Like always, the Orange and Blue Party violated the trust of the student body when they questioned President Reilly’s ability to pick a Chomp the Vote Director.
.
Now, and this goes for just about any deliberative body in a democracy, what this blogger doesn’t seem to get is that this is what opposition parties do and the voters who backed O&B expect – that they hold the Gator Party and the folks in charge accountable for their actions and to call them out on their mistakes. Mistakes like picking a Chomp the Vote director who won’t even be physically on the job registering voters for another two months, just before the registration deadline.
And that choice is made worse by the apparent refrain of today’s Gator Party – no job is worth doing if it can’t be done while simultaneously schmoozing with those in power in NYC and DC.
Back in the day, the FBK yahoos running Student Government picked incompetents who at least showed up for work. To think we’ve gone downhill from there…
Anyway, O&B: keep it up. I don’t like hearing people charge you with racism, warranted or not, but you are doing what oppositions are supposed to do in any democracy – by raising hell and, gosh darn it, making the majority do the jobs that they cheated, lobbied, blackballed, and “worked” so hard to win.
