The boy President is pissed!
Recently, University of Florida Student Body President Joe Goldberg pulled the plug on SG’s advertising in the Alligator, the University’s largest (and basically only) campus newspaper.
In doing so, he is the first SG politician to have the guts to do what has been talked about for years. Basically, the SG establishment resents the Alligator’s anti-establishment bent and their taunting of the SG election system (whereby the same group people always seem to win, whatever their party name is this year). They always talk about pulling the advertising – one year, they even encouraged and helped fund an alternative paper (it was so badly written and chocked full on nothing but ads that it failed in about a year).
Of course, the question becomes one of where that advertising money go? To finally delivering gym towels at SouthWest Rec? To an even bigger end-of-the-year banquet? Bigger office space?
And, more important, will the Gator Party forfeit its opportunity to spend money on Alligator ads in the upcoming mid-term elections? Does that give its opponents, the Impact party, a chance to steal some cheap publicity?
