SG Never Changes
Two groups won’t debate each other. The Majority abuses its power to fork over the Minority unnecessarily. The campus newspaper is disgusted by the whole thing and refuses to endorse either side.
Sound familiar? Then it must by election season at my alma mater down in Gainesville. On the one side is the blue-shirt Gator Party, representing the Greek community and the used-to-be-worth-something secret society Florida Blue Key. On the other side is the orange-shirt Orange & Blue Party, representing the so-called Independents fighting their way to power.
It’s a fall election, but the Gator party has had a summer full of screw ups. So it’s really tough to say how things will go, although I think it’s quite a cop-out by the Alligator not to endorse anyone for what is mostly Gator party transgressions. (I mean, really, don’t try pretending that the accusation that the O&B tipped off the police to underage drinking is the same as the nonfeasance and abuse of power we typically see from Gator when it’s underseige.)
So, I’ll watch on Thursday for the results in the Alligator. But don’t color me surprised if the Gator Party drags enough eager pledges to the polls to win another election. After all, that SG never changes is a truism for a reason.
