Rush “Success”?
I’ve always been interested in knowing how Rush Week ends at UF – how many of those who show up at Rush parties end up receiving bids to become pledges in fraternities. Today, I got my answer.
The Inter-Fraternity Council announced a “successful” Rush week of 350 guests at Rush events, and the 24 fraternities of the IFC offering bids to 270 new pledges. That’s like a 78% probability of a Rush guest being given a bid. Doesn’t that seem not at all selective? It seems like anyone could join a frat just by showing interest.
Yeah, I know the response – not all pledges will make it, there are some people who received bids from fraternities that may not have been their first choice, etc.
But either the turnout at Rush parties were low, or the % of guests receiving bids was high. Either way, it wasn’t as successful as I’d expect from the Greek system, even if my standards are higher than theirs.
