Incumbency Is the Word
According to a limited review of the Senate roster and the candidate lists, it appears UF could re-elect as many as 14 of its current roster of 46 Spring senators.
Unite has 3 incumbents on its list, including the Vet-Med Senator who is running unopposed. One incumbent, for Health Professions, is running as an Independent. And a whopping 10 incumbents fill the Swamp slate, including Jacob Sum who is running unopposed in Architecture.
While having incumbents on the list might seem like a great strategy, as they can run on their records, it can just as easily point to a weakness, having to fill one’s slate with the same people all over again.
UF rarely sees Senators run for re-election, and rarely to the degree they are running now. Something to think about, as the would-be politicos make their own cases for changing the way SG works.
