Potter-Mania
So, the fifth movie is now out and the final book will be available next Saturday. My younger brother – the first Potter fan in the family – must be thrilled to death.
I must admit, the series grew on me after watching the third and fourth films. I ended up picking up the 5th and 6th books just to see what was coming next, and it kinda spiralled after that.
The fifth film is excellent – I am impressed that the major plot points of the 900-page novel were carried over into the film without a major loss of style or substance. For example, I can’t recall a major subplot that was missing, just a few significant scenes were cut or diminished, moved around, etc. Overall, the film is an excellent entry into the movie series both as a standalone and an homage to the original text.
This compares to the fourth film, which seemed to compartamentalize the story a bit too much to be able to cut out subplots.
Anyway, I look forward to buying the 7th and final book of the series, and sitting down to read it, hopefully before word leaks out on how it all ends.
