Movie Mania
On Christmas Day, I and a friend went through a movie marathon, watching 3 movies in the theater. Here’s a brief run-down of what we saw:
King Kong. Good remake of the original, very good in fact. I think they didn’t need to show so many pre-historic bugs and such, but it kept the scope of the adventure where it needed to be, and the 3 hours it took weren’t too bad. And while it wasn’t a big part of the story, the care Ann Darrow developed for the big ape was believable.
Fun with Dick and Jane. Apparently a remake as well, but also a nod to all of the corporate scandals that happened in 2002. A couple who lose their jobs during a corporate meltdown eventually resort to robbery. Very funny, and impressive in how they kept going over the top with each new money scheme. The only real problem, I think, is that the final resolution went a little long and didn’t fit with the zany-ness of the rest of the film. Still, a very good flick.
Rumor has it…. Jennifer Aniston and a few others star in this film about a woman who discovers her family’s past may have inspired the book/movie The Graduate, and the plot that stems from that revelation was very much like what happened in that movie. Quite a good twist on the original story, and a long by-product. If you ever wanted to see Shirley MacLaine as a sassy, almost raunchy-speaking matriarch, this is a good movie to see.
